On July 4th, I’ll be speaking at Abney Park’s radical writing festival about how to live wisely through a time of global crisis. Drawing on insights from political theory, history, and literature, I’ll explore how the stories we tell about apocalypse—both in books and in public life—shape our responses to climate collapse, rising authoritarianism, and social breakdown. Some narratives mislead us, encouraging fear or isolation; others can help us imagine wiser, more collective responses. In this interactive talk, I’ll share ideas from my new book Don’t Talk About Politics—and offer a reading list for those trying to stay sane and radical.
