Nearly 75% of the world’s currently lives under authoritarian rule in some form— it’s no longer a distant problem, it’s happening right now.. As illiberal leaders rise to power, often through the ballot box, we’re forced to ask: is democracy in free fall? I joined FRANCE 24’s Eve Irvine to discuss this unsettling global trend and the emotional and psychological forces driving it. Drawing on my book Don’t Talk About Politics, I explored why far-right movements are proving so effective at winning hearts and minds—and why understanding the psychology behind political behaviour is essential if we want to defend and rebuild democracy.
